From Dreaming to Doing: Our Comic Con Story! Part 1

Hey Comic Con Wanderers! Ranbert and Daryene here, ready to share our bubbling excitement for the upcoming Comic Film & Manga Fest Rotterdam, set to ignite Rotterdam Ahoy on March 23 and 24! In this blog post we would like to share our experiences so far at fan conventions and our experiences with the celebrities and also what's in our collection so far before our next fan convention.
As avid fans of pop culture, living in the Netherlands for over 12 years has blessed us with incredible opportunities to immerse ourselves in the vibrant world of fan conventions. From meeting legendary stars to mingling with beloved celebrities, these events have become cherished chapters in our lives.
German Comic Con Dortmund 2022: Winter Edition
Our journey began back in 2022 at German Comic Con Dortmund: Winter Edition, where we were catapulted into a whirlwind of excitement. We were meeting Barbara Eden, Holly Marie Combs Ryan, Rose McGowan, Tom Cavanagh and Carlos Valdes.
I Dream of Jeannie
Meeting Hollywood icon Barbara Eden, the enchanting star of "I Dream of Jeannie," was a wish & dream come true. "I Dream of Jeannie" is a classic sitcom about astronaut Tony Nelson (Larry Hagman) and his misadventures with his genie named Jeannie, played by Barbara Eden. Jeannie's magic leads to humorous situations as she tries to grant wishes for Tony which most of the time he didn't wish for, creating a close bond between them and creating awkward moments for Tony in many situations. At the end they get married. The show aired from 1965 to 1970 and is cherished for its humor and iconic characters. The show got 2 reunion movies "I Dream of Jeannie... Fifteen Years Later (1985) and "I Still Dream of Jeannie" (1991).
My hand-painted I Dream of Jeannie Bottle by me, adorned with Barbara Eden's signature, remains a prized possession to this day.
Thanks to I Dream of Jeannie and Barbara Eden my wishes were granted and dreams came true. It was a 36 years old wish which came true: for one day to meet Barbara Eden.

Meeting Barbara Eden at German Comic Con was a dream come true. Her genuine warmth and genuine appreciation for her fans left an indelible mark on me.
The personal moments, conversations, laughter and tears we shared created memories that will last a lifetime.
I made sure to write Barbara Eden a letter telling her more about me, how I became a fan, when and the memories I have with in it also words of gratitude for finally have been able to meet her. Both Barbara Eden and her husband, mr. John Eicholtz, who I also met and went on photos with, received a card also written by me to wish them a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. It was so nice to meet mr. Eicholtz and have a conversation with him.
Charmed
Meeting the beloved and charming actresses of "Charmed", Holly Marie Combs Ryan and Rose McGowan, left us utterly spellbound. Charmed follows the Halliwell sisters—Prue, Piper, Phoebe, and later Paige—as they discover their destiny as powerful witches fighting evil. Prue (Shannen Doherty) starts with telekinesis, and later astral-projects. Piper (Holly Marie Combs Ryan) can freeze any moving thing — any — and later explodes anything, Phoebe (Alyssa Milano) has premonitions and later levitates, while Paige (Rose McGowan) orbs (teleports) and orbs objects and anything or should I say anyone? So, throughout the series, their powers evolve, challenging them to grow individually and as a sisterhood while facing supernatural threats vanquishing evil.
Holly Marie Combs Ryan:
Meeting the beloved and charming actress Holly Marie Combs Ryan left us charmed! Known for her captivating performances and genuine warmth, Holly Marie Combs Ryan effortlessly embodied the role of Piper Halliwell in "Charmed," infusing the character with charisma and authenticity. As devoted fans of Holly Marie Combs Ryan, we're thrilled by the chance to meet her again. Her dedication to her acting, not just in Charmed, combined with her unwavering commitment to important causes, serves as an inspiration to us all. We're eager to express our profound admiration for her work and share our appreciation in person. Reconnecting with her would not only be an unforgettable experience but a dream come true.
Our story with Holly and Charmed has been nothing short of magical, and we can't wait to relive those charming moments once again. Our fascination with Holly Marie Combs Ryan began years ago when we first stepped into the bewitching universe of Charmed. The combination of magic, fantasy, and strong female characters drew us in, captivating our hearts and sparking our admiration for Holly's portrayal of Piper Halliwell.
Our dreams took flight when we attended the German Comic Con Dortmund 2022: Winter Edition. Meeting Holly Marie Combs Ryan in person was a surreal experience, one that we will cherish forever. Daryene even had the incredible opportunity to pose for a photo with Holly and walked away with an autographed picture, making her collection all the more special. Holly received a card written by Daryene with empowering words also with gratitude, Christmas & Happy New Year wishes as it was Christmas season.
Rose McGowan:
Additionally, meeting the mesmerizing actress Rose McGowan left us charmed as well. With her mesmerizing presence, Rose McGowan brings depth and emotion to every role she portrays. Her portrayal of Rose McGowan in "Charmed" captivated audiences, showcasing her remarkable talent. As fans of Rose McGowan, we're thrilled by the opportunity to meet her once again to. Her advocacy for important causes and her unwavering commitment to speaking her truth inspired us deeply. We're eager to express our profound admiration for her work and share our appreciation in person. Reconnecting with Rose McGowan would be an extraordinary experience, allowing us to celebrate her talent and passion.
Rose McGowan complimented a unique Jeannie Bottle I, Ranbert, had hand-painted, which was autographed by the legendary Barbara Eden herself at that same Comic Con minutes before, who sat on the right hand of Holly. It was a moment of shared appreciation for the magic of television and the legacy of iconic shows like Charmed and I Dream of Jeannie.
Rose McGowan like Holly also received a card written by Daryene with empowering words also with gratitude, Christmas & Happy New Year wishes.
We are forever enchanted by the brilliance of both Holly Marie Combs Ryan and Rose McGowan. Charmed has blessed us with the gift of their talent, kindness, and the light they bring into the world. As fans of both actresses, we eagerly anticipate the opportunity to meet them again soon, to express our admiration and gratitude in person once again, and to celebrate the magic of "Charmed" together. Not just Charmed, but in the first place because of who they are and what they stand for.

CW: The Flash
Daryene also met Carlos Valdes and with Tom Cavanagh from CW's The Flash and went on photos with them. Tom Cavanagh and Carlos Valdes shine in CW's "The Flash." Cavanagh's versatility is evident in his portrayal of Harrison Wells and Eobard Thawne, while Carlos Valdes charms audiences as Cisco Ramon, the gadget geek and tech whiz. Eobard Thawne serves as the main adversary to Barry Allen, aka the Flash. Together, Cavanagh and Valdes form an unforgettable duo on screen, enriching the show with their talent and chemistry.

Jason Paige at Heroes Dutch Comic Con: Summer Edition
But our adventure was just beginning. In 2023, we had the honor of meeting Jason Paige, the original vocalist of the Pokémon theme song. Ranbert first met him on June 22nd 2023 at Nishi Market in Rotterdam, Netherlands, a store, during a meet-and-greet event where fans could go on photos with him and get his autograph. There we also witnessed him perform with his guitar, the song he wrote dedicated to Ash & Pikachu: Last Goodbye. Then we proceeded with watching Ash & Pikachu's last episode together in Japanese.
Then, on June 25th, the second day of Heroes Dutch Comic Con, we were there with Jason Paige, assisting him at his booth and also as photographers and videographers including for his live performance on stage.
Jason Paige at Total Loss Festival
Our friendship blossomed and even joined him as part of his festival crew at Total Loss Festival in Best, Eindhoven, Netherlands on September 10th, where Jason Paige together with Altijd Larstig & Rob Gasd'rop performed their hard style remix of the Pokémon theme song "Gotta Catch 'Em All!" where they also recorded their music video clip as well.
There at the festival there was also a radio station where Jason Paige got invited for an interview. We accompanied him in the live studio. See the photos below.
Jason Paige at Heroes Dutch Comic Con: Winter Edition
Our bond with Jason Paige grew stronger, leading us to be by his side at Heroes Dutch Comic Con again on November 18 and 19, where we assisted him at his booth like before with meet-and-greets, autographs and photo ops.
We also accompanied him through the halls to the backstage before he went on stage where he performed on both days.
He performed a song he wrote "A Tribute To Pokémon GO: Catch The World With A Throw" and also the Pokémon theme song. On Day 2 , November 19th, he also performed the hard style remix of the Pokémon theme song together with Rob from Altijd Larstig & Rob Gasd'rop.

Before we both met Jason Paige, we started promoting his music, his events and were preparing ourselves to meet him one day. That day came and more days came and we are so grateful and we feel lucky for calling him a friend while being his fans.
Beyond meeting our idols, we're avid collectors of autographs as you can see, with a particular passion for Pokémon memorabilia. From obtaining signatures of iconic voice actors to acquiring autographed Pokémon Trading Card Game cards, our collection continues to expand with each convention we attend. Our cherished pieces include autographs from Ted Lewis (Team Rocket's Giovanni), Veronica Taylor (Ash Ketchum), Matthew Sussman (Meowth), Lisa Ortiz (Sabrina), Stuart Zagnit (Prof. Oak), and Neil Stewart (Lawrence III).

Marilyn Harris Smith
Besides autographed TCGs, we also have other autographed items such as a show script from Victorious (Nickelodeon TV show), autographed by a beloved actress with whom a nice and beautiful friendship blossommed, Marilyn Harris Smith. Marilyn Harris Smith played Andre's Grandma on the show. She also autographed a photo hers for me. I (Ranbert) was also live with Marilyn Harris Smith during an Instragram Live with her when she announced her podcast which is about insights from during Victorious. She has cast members invited in her podcast and others who were on the show. I also have Barbara Eden's guest badge from German Comic Con 2022 which I (Ranbert) won during an auction on December 8 (4 days after the comic con) by German Comic Con on Facebook. That's the badge I won. This was luck!

I finally met Jason Paige!
