Hey there, fellow Pokémon fans! As you know, the Pokémon community was buzzing with disappointments as the release then of Pokémon Scarlet & Violet became a hot topic of discussion among journalists, passionate Pokémon fans, and gamers worldwide. The initial reception of these highly anticipated games fell short of expectations, raising concerns about their quality. It wasn't just a few murmurs; the issue echoed loudly across YouTube, social media, and gaming forums. Launch day saw an influx of videos highlighting bugs, glitches, and the games' unstable frame rates, leaving players and fans feeling less than thrilled about the experience. And yes, even memes!

Currently, there is a hot topic on the table that's been buzzing also at The Pokémon Company itself. It's time to dive into the world of Pokémon games and the quality questions that have been popping up. We all love our Pokémon adventures, but recently, some of us have been raising eyebrows about the overall experience. The Pokémon Company is paying attention, and there are discussions ongoing about the game quality after release on why they require patches — many bugs...

Takato Utsunomiya, the chief operating officer of The Pokémon Company, has given a little peek behind the curtain. The team is grappling with a delicate balance – how to stick to the regular game release schedule that we've come to expect while ensuring that every game shines with the high quality we've come to adore.

Now, let's chat about the elephant-sized Pikachu in the room – Pokémon Scarlet & Pokémon Violet. These games have taken us on thrilling journeys, but let's be real, there were some bumps in the road. Performance issues, glitches – not exactly the smoothest ride. And guess what? We're still dealing with a few of those quirks. It's like trying to tame a wild Wailord.

Game Freak and The Pokémon Company have been dedicated to a game-a-year routine, delivering our Pokémon fix on time. But hold on, there's a twist! Pokémon Scarlet and Violet got a double dose of DLC in 2023, a little surprise that shook things up a bit. It's clear they're eager to keep us engaged, and we're all for it.

However, the million PokéDollar question is this: Is the quest for regular releases affecting the overall quality? Are we caught in a whirlwind of quantity versus quality? We're fans, and we want both – thrilling new games and top-tier quality.

While Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet scored high on the gameplay scale, some of us felt a pang of disappointment on the technical side. Performance hiccups, glitches that popped up like Jigglypuff in a karaoke session – it's been a bit of a rollercoaster. And even now, the ride's not as smooth as we hoped it would be.

We're not pointing fingers, fellow trainers, but we're here to have an open conversation. The Pokémon Company hears us, and they're aware that delivering a glitch-free, top-quality adventure is what we're aiming for. Let's hope they find the secret ingredient to make this Pokémon brew absolutely perfect. Together, we're part of this incredible Pokémon journey.

At the Pokemon World Championships Utsunomiya stated the following:
“I think in general, if you look at the past, the path we’ve taken up until now has been this constant release, always regularly releasing products on a fairly fixed kind of a cadence, you might say. Always having these products able to be introduced and new experiences for our customers, and that’s how we’ve operated up until now. I think we’re still operating in that way, but there’s more and more conversations, as the development environments change, about how we can continue to do this, while making sure that we’re ensuring really quality products are also being introduced.”

Utsunomiya's response serves as a significant acknowledgment of the challenges faced by Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, both of which have encountered substantial technical hurdles following their release. These games have required multiple substantial patches post-launch, somewhat tarnishing what could have otherwise been counted as resounding successes in the Pokémon franchise.

When it comes to the developer behind the core Pokémon series, Game Freak, they've maintained an impressive release schedule since the franchise's debut in 1996. Over the course of 27 years, there have been only 7 years where Game Freak did not launch a new main series Pokémon game. It's worth noting that the introduction of Pokémon Sword and Shield brought an interesting twist to this schedule. Instead of a completely new game or remake, Game Freak chose to introduce DLC in 2020, signaling a change in their traditional release approach.

Continuing this trend, the planned release for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet in 2023 will also take the form of DLC, with the initial portion slated for a September release. This approach brings both excitement and curiosity, leaving fans eager to see how this shift in the release model will shape the Pokémon gaming experience.

Stay tuned, because as passionate Pokémon fans, we deserve the best, and we're on this adventure together. Let's keep that Pokémon spirit soaring high!
